Gloo is a deadline planner for University of Waterloo students, made up of the website at gloo-ten.vercel.app and the Gloo Chrome extension. This page explains what Gloo collects, why, and who handles it.
What Gloo collects
- Your account: your @uwaterloo.ca email address, and a password if you choose to set one (stored only as a secure hash by the sign-in provider, never in readable form).
- Your planner: the courses, deadlines, sections, colors, and events you add or change in Gloo.
- Course outline pages, only when you ask: when you choose “Add to Gloo” on a course outline page, the extension sends that page's text and address (and related pages of the same course site) to Gloo so it can find the deadlines.
- Instructor posts on Piazza, only if you turn it on: for a Piazza class that matches one of your Gloo courses, and only after you choose “Yes, watch”, the extension sends the class name and term, and the title, text, date, and address of instructor posts you open, to check them for changed deadlines. Student posts, followups, and posts you do not open are never read.
- Extension settings: your Gloo address setting, your Piazza watch choices, and which posts were already checked are kept in your browser's extension storage, not sent to Gloo.
Gloo does not collect your browsing history and does not read pages other than the ones described above.
How it is used
Only to run Gloo: to sign you in, to build and show your planner, and to find deadlines and deadline changes. Course deadlines found in an outline or instructor post are shared with other Gloo students taking the same course, so each outline or post is read once. Your own planner, email, and choices are never shared with other students.
Gloo does not sell your data, does not show ads, and does not use your data for anything unrelated to Gloo.
Who handles it
Gloo uses these service providers, which process data only to provide their service to Gloo:
- Vercel: hosts the Gloo website.
- Supabase: stores the database and handles sign-in.
- Brevo: sends sign-in code emails.
- OpenAI: reads outline and post text to find dates and deadlines.
Keeping and deleting data
Your planner is kept while you use Gloo. Removing a course from Gloo deletes it from your planner. To delete your account and planner, email the address below from your Waterloo email. You can remove the extension at any time from chrome://extensions, which also removes its browser storage.
